Artist Statement
Inspired by my husband Jay’s beekeeping, I’ve become endlessly fascinated by the honeybee and the natural world it represents. My exploration into the hive’s gifts—beeswax, honey, and propolis—became the foundation for my Bath & Body line, and through this, I discovered encaustic painting.
Encaustic, a technique dating back to ancient Greece, uses heat to melt beeswax and resin. Pigments are added to this encaustic medium to create richly textured, layered artworks. The medium’s density and its ability to hold an image—especially when combined with mixed media and photography—immediately captivated me, allowing my creativity to flow into the natural world I love so much.
Each project begins with a vision, but the unpredictable nature of molten wax often teaches me to surrender my desire for control. As the layers build, move and fuse, I find myself collaborating with the medium, asking it what it wishes to express. The process becomes a dance between intention and spontaneity, where the wax guides me just as much as I direct it.
While my work features both representational and abstract themes, I often find myself drawn to the world of honeybees, butterflies, dragonflies, trees, flowers, and leaves—each one a symbol of nature’s delicate yet powerful cycles. My abstract elements are fueled by my ongoing spiritual, philosophical, and scientific inquiries, exploring concepts and relationships like Macro/Micro, Thesis/Antithesis, Non-Linear Time, and Quantum Physics. These ideas blend together to inform my artistic journey, transforming each piece into a meditation on the interconnectedness of life.
